What It Is
The Respect the Rig campaign, led by the Texas Department of Public Safety, is a statewide effort to educate drivers on safe driving practices around commercial vehicles and 18-wheelers. Our mission is to reduce crashes, protect lives, and make Texas highways safer for all.
Why It Matters
In 2024, Texas reported more than 39,000 crashes involving commercial vehicles, many of them preventable with better driver awareness. Large trucks require more space and time to maneuver, and passenger vehicle drivers play a critical role in preventing collisions. Respect the Rig equips you with the knowledge to share the road responsibly.
Texas is #1 in commercial motor vehicle and passenger car accidents.
Our Commitment
Partnering with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Texas law enforcement, the Texas Department of Public Safety provides practical tips, free resources, and community outreach to promote safe driving. Together, we can make Texas roads a model of safety and respect.
